Whatever your Christmas looks like this year, remember that clutter and chaos have always been part of this ancient celebration — and that God is with us in our mess.

By being mindful of the example we set — both in the habits we encourage and the behaviours we avoid — we’re not only guiding our children’s actions today, but also building the foundation for the kind of person they will grow up to be.

Couples who marry in the church, and not just at the church, have a very different idea of what marriage should be. Marriage, or Matrimony, for them is a covenant, a sacred promise made, not only to each other, but also to the Church.

The tradition of asking a father for his blessing to marry his daughter reflects this human intuition of responsibility of care. As we welcome each child’s spouse into our family, we entrust them with our child’s care and commit to supporting them in this endeavour.

Princess Kate has just finished 9 months of chemotherapy for cancer. She celebrated the end of this time of suffering by releasing a very heartfelt 3-minute video about the stormy trial and the joy of family. It is utterly brilliant.

Three years and three months after we began trying, Angie is finally pregnant! In the end, Angie and I cannot take credit for this miracle of pregnancy. There are no silver bullets, but there were three things that seem to have made a big difference in our case.

I attended the Dads4Kids Men’s Leadership Summit last weekend (9-11 August 2024) and had the privilege of giving the Father’s Blessing to all who were there. As requested, here is a copy of the blessing.

Towards the end of July, we celebrate World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. This year (2024), the theme is loneliness and references Psalm 71:9 — “Do not cast me off in my old age”.

During a break in filming Knox Grammar School’s Centenary Tattoo, I googled ‘Virile Agitur’, Knox’s school motto. I almost fell off my camera chair when I discovered it means ‘do the manly thing.’ What a fantastic motto for an all-boys school!

Pride is profoundly I-centred. It defends our threatened ego by diminishing the other and consequently puts distance between us. Humility is the foundation of harmony and love between husband and wife. It helps us get the focus off winning and onto each other.

Kingdom Thinkers Academy (KTA) has launched its online school portal. The portal offers quality options suitable for both the homeschooled and the tutored, and is another innovative move by the Australian start-up.

As a husband and father, I couldn’t agree more with Harrison Butker — whether on leadership, cultural chaos, masculinity, responsibility, and men and women’s complementary roles as husbands and wives.

Wayne Alcorn has recently released a new book, "My Father's Son". International speaker and leadership consultant Sam Chand said, “'My Father’s Son' will make you laugh and cry at the same time, inspire and challenge you simultaneously.” I agree with Sam. It really is fantastic!

An elegant tribute to motherhood.

Lorenz suggested that a baby’s cute features trigger a nurturing response in adults, encouraging them to care for and protect them. Research has confirmed Lorenz’s theory many times over in the decades since.

Do you already have the “perfect” plan designed for your children’s lives? As mothers, I believe this is a particularly difficult area to manoeuvre. Wanting the very best for our children, we can get our hearts set on the best preschool to the best college.

It’s commonly accepted today that first marriages have a greater success rate when delayed. If we dig a bit deeper, however, we find this conventional wisdom regarding delayed marrying has its flaws. Certain factors are at play in the success of all marriages.

We are right in the middle of celebrating the Easter holidays, which always come up as a welcome watering hole of rest and recreation for fathers and families. What has this got to do with you as a father, and why is it important?
