Male Victims of Sexual Violence: The Data the World Doesn’t Want You to See
May 6, 2025

“What you don’t understand, George, is that the number of male victims of sexual assault is infinitesimally small!”
Alongside the angry spittle that lightly misted my face, these firm words came alongside the all-too-familiar ‘this small’ 🤏 hand gesture; as the narrow, atomically small gap between her index finger and thumb, shoved inches from my face, highlighted just how small, and insignificant she thought these traumatised men were.
Men’s Sexual Victimisation: Ignored
I’ve been here before, I thought, looking down at the half-drunk pint of beer in front of me, whose quivering surface reverberated amongst the outrage, much like that iconic glass of water from Jurassic Park that shook in the presence of the giant Tyrannosaurus rex.
I knew she was wrong, of course.
The Direct Messages I had received from men just that week were more than enough to fill that tiny gap between her sweaty fingers, and I knew the devastation it left upon each of them was larger than the entire room we were sitting in.
“Who are you to decide what experiences are infinitesimal?”, I would ask her.
Responded to only with more squawks, more spittle, and more bulls***.
Upon finishing my drink, I finally left that table, leaving behind those friendships and the ‘feminist’ label I had once identified with, and never returned.
But the word ‘infinitesimal’ stayed with me, reminding me of the ignorance, cruelty and betrayal of our so-called ‘guardians of morality’.
Five years later, here I am.
Filling in the missing pieces of the conversation, and widening that stubborn gap between her podgy fingers, with an unapologetic crowbar of facts.
