never give in

It’s the middle of Winter. It’s cold. The TV is jampacked full of all your favourite shows. It’s cold. The aroma of lasagne or hot chocolate wafts through the house. Did I mention it’s cold? This is when you have to make a choice: dressing gown and comfort food… or workout.

It’s especially hard tonight because every other member of Fit Club has pulled out. Getting motivated to exercise alone is 10 times harder than knowing a bunch of girls are waiting outside for you.

I remind myself that getting off the couch is actually the hardest part of exercising so, I drag my sorry self downstairs and flick on ‘Michelle Bridges — Project: Extreme’. Just as the title infers, it doesn’t tickle. It’s tough, gruelling, hard work and it feels fantastic!

50 minutes later, I’m sweating, panting and feeling alive!

As Winston Churchill once said:

“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never — in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”

I refuse to give in to the call of the couch. I refuse to give in to my comfy slippers, comfort food and comfortable existence. I have achieved my goal weight, but I’m not done. ‘Project: Happy, Healthy Me’ is a work in progress.

I’ve never regretted a single workout. But I do regret the times I have succumbed to the couch.

Never, never, never, never give in!

A mother makes a father, and a father makes a mother. Parenthood happens in unison. So, it goes without saying that Mums are incredibly priceless and vital, just as Dads are. So why don’t we value mothers more than we do? Studies and anecdotal evidence show that mothers generally feel very under-appreciated. As men we must change that.
